Troop 4 New Eagle Scout

Ben Huber began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub in 2002.

He joined Troop 4 in 2007 due to number of families he was friends with and the camaraderie he saw amongst the boys.

Ben's leadership in troop 4 consisted of him being den chief, plants and animal instructor, Leave No Trace instructor, map and compass instructor and senior assistant scout master. During his time as den chief he assisted in running his brother Ethan's den. While he was the plants and animal instructor he created a tri-fold board, which is still being used, to teach the boys about various indigenous species of plants and animals.  During his time as a Leave No Trace instructor he taught the boys the seven principles of Leave No Trace. When he was the map and compass instructor he assisted  in teaching the orienteering merit badge. His last year in scouts Ben was an assistant scout master and helped to organize the annual talent show and casino night, both events the boys really enjoy.

Ben attended Boy Scout camp numerous times and served as patrol leader where he led his boys to be an honor patrol.  He also attended National Youth Leadership Training at TJ Storer and had a great time.

For Ben's eagle project he took on a big challenge and decided to build an art cabinet for the Congregational Church in Westborough where he attends church, he is also a teacher there. Ben had never done any woodworking but with the help of an assistant scoutmaster, Gordon Frye, Ben learned not only how to draw up a blueprint but how to execute it and lead other boys in doing the work.

Ben has grown so much during his time in scouting. He started as a young boy who was only going because his mom encouraged him, to a young man who saw the value in scouting and decided to use the resources available to him to grow as a man.

His parents  and Troop 4 family are so proud of the man that stands before you today that has earned the rank of Eagle.  He has worked hard for the accomplishment and he deserves it.  Congratulations Ben!
