SOMERVILLE, MA – Tyrone’s mom was delighted when her son told her he was angry with her. Her face lit up while describing how much it mattered that Tyrone, for the first time, was able to express his frustration in words, like any other kid.
Technology made that possible.
The technology that Tyrone used was ProLoQuo2Go, an augmented communication platform that gives voice to people who cannot (or choose not) to express themselves verbally. It’s one of the tools that 3LPlace will be able to offer through a $7,500 grant just received from the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.

3LPlace, based in Somerville’s Teele Square, provides lifelong learning and support for people with autism and other developmental challenges.
The Allison Keller Technology Grant from Flutie will also pay for iPads and other tools, including noise-canceling headphones for members with autism who need protection from sensory overload.
“3LPlace is committed to engaging people by building on their individual strengths, and this grant will help us expand that ability,” said Cassy Wilson, co-executive director. “We deeply appreciate the Flutie Foundation’s ongoing support for our work.”
“Programs like these are helping people on the autism spectrum live life to the fullest and we are proud to support their efforts,” said Nick Savarese, the foundation’s executive director. The Flutie Foundation awards competitive grants annually.
