SOMERVILLE, MA — A resident was arrested by Cambridge police this week on a variety of felony charges.
Kyle Evans, 39, has officially been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, possession of a Class A substance, possession of a firearm and ammunition, resisting arrest, and multiple outstanding warrants.
Officers recognized Evans after seeing him in the area of Rindge Ave and Alewife Brook Parkway on the morning of Monday, May 11. According to the department, they were aware of the warrants out of Boston and Rhode Island. Evans tried to flee the area when officers approached him before eventually being caught up to.
“Evans violently resisted officer efforts to place him under arrest which included kicking officers and thrashing in an effort to break free,” the department said in a statement. “At one point during the struggle a loaded magazine of ammunition allegedly fell from his person. With the assistance of a good samaritan and back-up officers, Evans was soon placed into custody.”
Officers also discovered a .45 caliber pistol, a brown substance on Evans which they believe to be heroin and fentanyl, and two fake IDs from other states. Police said that Evans does not have a license to carry a gun. He was arraigned in Cambridge District Court Friday morning.
