SOMERVILLE, MA — Salt + Stone will reopen its Assembly Row restaurant on Friday, July 10, nearly five months after a fire forced the business to close, the restaurant told Patch.

The restaurant has remained closed since Feb. 3, when a fire broke out inside the popular eatery at 463 Assembly Row. Firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 6:25 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from both the restaurant and the roof of the six-story building.

According to the Somerville Fire Department, the blaze originated in the flue pipe above a gas-powered oven. Fire crews extended hose lines inside the restaurant and to the roof, where they cut open the flue pipe to extinguish the flames. One firefighter suffered a minor injury, while no restaurant employees, customers or residents of the apartments above were hurt.

The restaurant sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage in the incident. Although smoke entered the occupied apartments above, officials said there was no damage to the residential units, and no residents were displaced.

The business will resume regular operations on Friday following months of repairs. The independently owned restaurant serves an American-inspired menu featuring seafood, steaks, handmade pastas and wood-fired dishes. It is the first independent restaurant from restaurateurs Sean and Sue Olson, who have more than 40 years of experience in the hospitality industry.

Salt + Stone opened in 2022 after Sean and Sue Olson brought the concept to Assembly Row. While the original vision centered on a pizza-focused menu, the restaurant ultimately expanded into a broader American dining concept that has become a fixture in the neighborhood.
