He is also survived by parents Edward H. and Jane Petit of Scituate; nieces Verity, Mia and Ella; parents-in-law Phillip and Kathleen Cocco of Marshfield; siblings-in-law Phillip, James and Jen, and Liza Cocco; and aunts, numerous cousins and countless friends.
Born in Boston, Edward was raised in Scituate, where he attended Scituate High School and was active in varsity football and Boy Scouts, ultimately earning the rank Eagle Scout. Ed graduated from Babson College and continued his education at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he graduated with an MBA, concentration in Finance. He had a long career in the financial industry and over the years worked at Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, A. Webster Dougherty; finally establishing himself as the Manager, Business Development at a hedge fund where he had his greatest professional success, substantially increasing the assets under management and raising the profile of the firm in the industry. He was a frequent speaker and panelist at industry conferences, and is well known throughout the financial community.
Ed had a great love of life: music, sailing, sports, following his beloved Tar Heels. Enjoying summers in Maine, he will always be remembered for his loyalty, steadfastness and a man devoted to his family.

Friends may call Thursday June 16, 2011 in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday June 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be private.
