Beacon Street To Close In Somerville This Weekend

Part of the road will shut down during the day for paving work.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Part of Beacon Street will close to all traffic from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. The road will shut down between Sacramento Street and Washington Street for paving work.

During the closure, northbound vehicles will be detoured along Washington Street to Bow Street to Somerville Avenue/Beacon Street. Southbound vehicles will be detoured at Somerville Avenue to Washington Street/Beacon Street, with local southbound traffic allowed on Beacon Street up to Sacramento Street.

Signs, law enforcement details and advanced message boards will be in place. Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution. All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency situation.

This work is part of a $9.8 million project to rebuild the section of Beacon Street from Somerville Avenue to the area of the Cambridge line.
