Boston-area school receives $15,000 grant from Northwestern Mutual

Volunteer recognized for dedication to the Farr Academy

Helping children succeed in school and in life is a passion for Doug DiCerbo, who is being celebrated for his 17-year commitment to the Farr Academy in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a member of the organization’s board of directors and a leading fundraiser, DiCerbo is receiving Northwestern Mutual’s annual Community Service Award.

DiCerbo, a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual – The Boston Group, was selected for this $15,000 grant in recognition of his outstanding volunteer work at the Farr Academy. The award honors 16 Northwestern Mutual financial professionals who work tirelessly in all aspects of their community and honors the organization with a grant on behalf of the volunteer’s efforts.

Founded in 1972, the Farr Academy serves students in grades 7 through 12 with a range of emotional and learning problems. The academy addresses the specific needs of its students through tutoring, counseling and other comprehensive programs.

“My commitment to the organizations means that I can give something back to two of the most vulnerable populations, troubled youth and handicapped or medically involved children,” DiCerbo said. “It is an organization that brings out my passion and furthers my desire to be part of the mission.”

Through this grant, the Farr Academy will continue to provide small class sizes to ensure one-on-one interaction with students.
