Brass Union Files their Winter Lineup
Former police department turned tavern & lounge debuts seasonal menus

Housed in the former Somerville police department in Union Square, Brass Union is filing its winter menu lineup to capture the comforting tastes of the season and the latest developments in the cocktail world.
Designed by executive chef Jonathan Kopacz, the updated carte du jour at this tavern and lounge features seasonal specialties with ingredients sourced from local purveyors. The new additions include starters Parsnip Soup with crispy parsnip and olive oil ($6); Tomato Soup ($6); Cider Glazed Parsnips with hazelnuts and arugula ($10); the vegetarian entrée of Farro & Roasted Squash with Brussels sprouts, pickled red cabbage and a poached egg ($12); a seasonal Market Fish served with confit potatoes, roasted cauliflower and kale ($17); and, Roast Chicken Breast with dark meat hash, greens, cranberry mustard ($18). For the sweet tooth, Chef Kopacz will serve up a duo of desserts including the Pumpkin Mousse topped with applesauce, shaved apple and a dusting of cinnamon ($8) and Pecan Pie ($8).
On the liquid side, the beverage team at Brass Union is debuting new classic cocktails with maple, ginger, activated charcoal and plum. Under the direction of beverage director Paulo Pereira, these unique options are crafted with housemade sodas and syrups, peak seasonal ingredients and special touches. For the “Beginner” drinker, there is the Day & Night – a nod to Kid Cudi’s hit song – with vodka, Gran Classico, crème de mure, lemon and activated charcoal ($11) and the Irish G&T featuring Glendalough Wild gin, house tonic syrup and soda water ($12). Stepping it up a notch, the “Intermediate” cocktail options take on the form of fictional personalities with the Clue-inspired Professor Plum with Old Overholt rye, dry vermouth, plum shrub, maple syrup and lemon ($11) and the Fight Club-inspired Tyler Durden with Stolen Smoked rum, Meyer lemon oleo saccharum, Regan’s Orange bitters, angostura bitters ($12). On draft is the Toki Highball with Toki Japanese whiskey, house ginger syrup and soda water ($13). By popular demand, Pereira also will resurrect his winter season Sonny & Gramps cocktail with Cocoa Puff-infused bourbon, pepper syrup and xocolat mole bitters ($10).
