Breakthrough Greater Boston Opens Somerville Campus
The tuition-free, out-of-school program supports underserved middle and high school students in Boston, Cambridge and now Somerville.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Breakthrough Greater Boston has officially opened a campus in Somerville, expanding its reach from Boston and Cambridge. The program was founded in Cambridge in 1992 by MacArthur Genius Award winner Angela Duckworth and has provided opportunities for nearly 2,500 students and teachers.
Breakthrough Greater Boston will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Argenziano School on Thursday, June 21. It plans to initially serve 50 students from six Somerville schools and will open its six-week summer course on July 2.
The program is a tuition-free, out-of-school program that supports the academic success of underserved middle and high school students in Cambridge, Boston and now Somerville. By 2024, it expects to serve up to 900 students and 200 teachers annually.

Over the past eight years, 97 percent of its graduating students have gone to a four-year college and on average, more than 75 percent of teachers have entered the urban education field.
