Wynn Boston Harbor Construction Worker Dies After Site Incident

The worker died after he was injured at the construction site Tuesday.

EVERETT, MA – A construction worker died from injuries he sustained at the Wynn Boston Harbor site Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was a 56-year-old excavator operator, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office. Reports identified him as Seekonk resident Joe Teixeira, an employee of Brockton-based subcontractor J. Derenzo Companies.

Investigators believe he was taking apart a trench box when the incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the south end of the construction site.

He regained consciousness at the scene before he was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the DA's office said.

"This is a very sad day for everyone at Wynn Boston Harbor," a Wynn spokesperson said in a statement. "Our deepest condolences and heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and coworkers."

Reports identified the worker as Seekonk resident Joe Teixeira. Police and OSHA are conducting an investigation into the death. A Wynn spokesperson said the company is investigating the incident as well.

The cause of death has not been determined, though officials said foul play is not suspected.

The $2.4 billion resort and casino is on track for a June 2019 opening. Meanwhile state gaming officials are investigating sexual misconduct accusations against former chairman and CEO Steve Wynn, who resigned in February. The company has said it is "actively considering" changing the name of the complex in light of the allegations against Wynn.
