Don't Look Now, Another GLX Closure Is Here
The Broadway bridge coming down was just the start.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The Green Line Extension project is continuing on schedule, officials said in an update last month. The Broadway bridge in Ball Square was closed March 22 and removed over the weekend. A new bridge is expected to reopen in March 2020.
Next up? The Washington Street bridge underpass in East Somerville. The bridge will close Monday, April 8, and a new one will be built through fall 2020.
Here's what will happen: traffic heading east will be detoured around the Washington Street underpass via a left turn on McGrath Highway from Washington Street and a right turn on Broadway, continuing onto Maffa Way to Sullivan Square.

Traffic heading west will be detoured around the Washington Street underpass via the Main Street exit from the Sullivan Square traffic circle, continuing onto Mystic Avenue before turning left onto Lombardi Street, taking the second right onto Broadway, turning left onto McGrath Highway and turning right onto Washington Street.
But wait, there's more. The third (and final bridge closure) is slated for July. That's the Medford Street bridge in Gilman Square, which is expected to remain closed for less than a year.

Commuters traveling through Medford, Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston should anticipate additional travel times and are advised to seek an alternate route if possible for the duration of each bridge closure. Due to the nature of construction, bridge closure schedules are subject to change.
