Early Morning Underground Explosion In Somerville
The explosion occurred on Cross Street at McGrath Highway around 4:17 a.m. Thursday, police said.

SOMERVILLE, MA — An underground explosion in an electrical manhole caused significant damage in Somerville early Thursday morning, the Somerville Police Department confirmed to Patch.
While no one was injured, the explosion, which occurred on Cross Street at McGrath Highway around 4:17 a.m., damaged a roadway and caused windows on nearby buildings to shatter, police said.
The building did not suffer any structural damage, according to police.

Boston25 reported that hundreds of neighborhood residents were left without power after the blast.
“It was really loud. It knocked a few things off my house. It knocked down a door. It broke some glass,” Damary Figueroa, who lives in the damaged building, told Boston25. “We were asleep...We thought it was a car crash.”
