Eater Boston's 'Restaurant Of The Year' Is In Somerville

To find Boston's Restaurant of the Year, you'll have to go next door.

SOMERVILLE, MA — To find Boston's top restaurant, you'll have to go next door. Eater Boston named Tanám in Somerville's Union Square the Restaurant of the Year, highlighting its risk-taking that paid off in a big way in 2019.

The Bow Market eatery serves Filipino American cuisine in reservation-required, prepaid meals. Some of the meals are "coursed storytelling," in which the dishes celebrate Filipino history and culture, while others are utensil-free, where the food is displayed on a massive banana leaf, according to Eater.

It gets less conventional: meals are communal and Tanám is worker-owned. But a restaurant's uniqueness only carries it so far: the most important element, the food, is "incredible" at Tanám, according to Eater.
