14th Annual Vocational Fair

Somerville, MA -- On Saturday, March 10, 2012, the Somerville High School Center for Career and Technical Education (CCTE) will showcase the High School's comprehensive career and technical education program at the 14th Annual Vocational Fair.

The event, which will be held at the Somerville High School Atrium from 9:00 am to noon, will feature projects created by Somerville students, and an opportunity for visitors to engage with teachers about the Center's programs and discuss career opportunities available to CCTE students.

Festivities begin at 9:00 am with a buffet breakfast, and will continue throughout the morning with a variety of interactive displays, digital presentations, and facility tours.

The Somerville High School's Center for Career and Technical Education is a fully accredited career and technical program that offers a comprehensive choice of programs in 13 areas, led by experts in their field of study.

All Somerville freshmen in the CCTE program have the opportunity to explore all 13 Career and Technical areas through a fast-paced introductory exploratory program.

Students select a primary area of focus by the end of their freshman year, and work with teachers and school Administrators to develop a career plan for their remaining three years in the program. The career plan includes post-secondary education pathways. Students in the program also benefit from articulation agreements with numerous colleges and technical institutes throughout the United States.

Career and Technical areas of study offered at the Somerville High School CCTE include:  Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Child Development, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts/Baking, Drafting, Electrical, Design and Visual Graphic Communications, Health Careers, Machine Technology, Metal Fabrication, Painting and Design.  A new Dental Assistant program is slated to open in September of 2012 in the CCTE's new Medical/Health Career Lab.  Students will be able to enroll in the Dental Assistant program beginning September of 2013.
