Hodgkins Park Ballfield Opening Ceremony

SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville will officially re-open the ball field at Hodgkins-Curtin Park on Saturday, July 30th with a ribbon cutting and field day event beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the Holland Street side of the park.  All community members are welcome, free of charge.  The field had been part of a larger renovation project; Hodgkins-Curtin Playground opened in spring 2010, however the grass on the new field had to set through one full season to ensure there would be no damage to the infrastructure.  The grand opening event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by light refreshments and a field day, organized through the Somerville Recreation Department.

“With more than 18 parks and open spaces having been renovated or constructed over the last several years, I’m excited to cut the ribbon at the new Hodgkins-Curtin ball field,” said Mayor Curtatone.  “This is one of the more heavily trafficked parks in the City, and I know that so many of our West Somerville neighbors have been awaiting the reopening of the field.  The weather looks to make this ribbon cutting event a great opportunity to bring the whole family and help us celebrate.”

“The renovation of the playground at Hodgkins-Curtin has already been a tremendous asset to the area, and I know that so many of those families, and others, have been anxiously awaiting the re-opening of the ball field as well.  I’m looking forward to seeing the little league games and other activities taking place on the field once again, and the increase in quality of life for residents of Ward 7,” said Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane.

Activities at the event will include mini Little League games, relay races, big ball volleyball, inflatable basketball, football throwing contest, and more.  Residents of all ages are invited to join us beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th.
