Matt Carrano: Evolution of a Somerville Artist Reception

From the Nave's website:

This is only the second solo show the Nave has presented in seven years. We are pleased to provide an in-depth view of over fifteen years of oil paintings created in Matt Carrano's Somerville studio. About his work, Matt writes:

"My work is in one way or other about observation. It is connected to a tradition of perceptual painting based on close observation of the world around us. While my work is grounded in representation, description is never an objective. One of the most exciting things that I find happens in the act of painting is when the painting takes on its own reality and begins to suggest places either observed or imagined in my mind and in the mind of the viewer. I consider myself an abstract artist as these painting, for me, are abstractions in the purest sense of the word."
