Marc Brettler, Dora Golding Professor of Bible in the
Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University, where he
was awarded the Michael L. Walzer Teaching Prize. Dr. Brettler is the author of many articles on literary and historical aspects of biblical texts, co-editor
of “The Jewish Study Bible” (Oxford University Press; 2004), and winner of a 2004 National Jewish Book Award. He has been a Me’ah instructor since the the program’s inception.
“What a privilege it has been for us
to learn Torah from such a knowledgeable scholar! Not only is Marc Brettler well organized and engaging, but he also shares modern perspectives on ancient material—a gift that will continue to enlighten my learning going forward.”
Dr. Shaye J. D. Cohen is the Littauer Professor of Hebrew Literature and Philosophy in
the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations of Harvard University. Prof. Cohen began his career at the Jewish Theological Seminary
where he was ordained and for many years was the Dean of the Graduate School and Shenkman Professor of Jewish History. He received his Ph.D. in Ancient History, with distinction, from Columbia

“I loved learning from Professor Cohen. I
sat on the edge of my seat through fascinating lessons and gained a great
foundation for further knowledge”
