Classes for children ages 7 through 12 consist of continuing to explore yoga as they practice more physically challenging postures on their way to building strength and balance. Children learn about partner yoga - a great source of fun and cooperative learning as kids grow older - and the basics of yoga philosophy are introduced with interactive learning about the chakras, mudras and doshas.
Each class ends with rest and meditation, which are important aspects of the class as well. Children are natural yogis; they have a blast exploring their new moves while building strong body and breath awareness, cooperative skills, and self-confidence.
Janine Duffy is certified to teach children’s yoga through Radiant Child Yoga. She teaches children’s yoga at Bow Street Yoga in Union Square. She has two beautiful sons, James and Eoin. It was watching her son in his yoga classes with Checka that convinced me to become certified to teach children’s yoga. Seeing the difference in his attitude and alertness made a believer out of me that yoga is great for anyone of any age – especially children!
Limited to 12 kids. Tickets will be distributed in the children’s room one hour prior to beginning of each session.
This free program is funded by the Friends of the Library.
