This three-session class is for students with some Premiere editing experience, taught at Somerville Community Access Television this Fall.

Fall Intermediate Editing with Adobe Premiere at SCATV

This three-session class is for students with some Premier editing experience. Students are taken through the process of editing a project using video materials provided to them for the first two sessions, then they will have the option to use their own material for session 3. The classes will include an overview of the workflow and tools, sound editing and mixing, color grading basics, and time to practice the skills learned. Register Here!

Class Meeting 1
Session 1. Overview of workflow import, reviewing, building a rough assembly (50 min,)
Session 2. Overview of timeline editing, sequence settings, rendering, and export options (50 min.)
Homework: Review handouts: 1. Workflow Overview, 2. Timeline Editing, 3. Summary of shortcut keys, and practice editing on your own to reinforce what you’ve learned.

Class Meeting 2
Session 3. Overview of basic sound editing and simple mixing (50 min.)
Session 4. Overview of video transitions, effects, and color grading overview (50 min.)
Homework: Review handouts: 4. Sound editing and mixing, 5. Color grading basics, and practice editing on your own to reinforce what you’ve learned.

Class Meeting 3
Session 5. Practice with editing from start to finish (picture and sound editing) (50 min.)
Session 6. Practice with finishing (color grading, video effects, adding titles, export) from start to finish (50 min.)
Homework: Edit your own video from start to finish as soon after the workshop as possible in order to reinforce what you’ve learned.

Instructor: David Tames
David Tamés is a documentary filmmaker and educator who is co-directing Farm and Red Moon, a feature-length documentary now in post-production. David co-founded MIT TechTV, the video sharing site for the MIT community and in the early days of web video was part of the team producing The East Village, a groundbreaking entertainment site and winner of New Media Magazine’s InVision Gold Award. David is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor in the College of Arts, Media and Design at Northeastern University where he teaches video and interactive media production courses and serves on the board of directors of Filmmakers Collaborative. He holds an MS in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Laboratory and an MFA in Communication Design from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
