Fire Strikes The Burren Restaurant in Davis Square, Shuts Down Elm Street.
The fire started in the exterior of the building at approximately 4:35 p.m. By 5 p.m. it was under control. No one was injured.
One of Davis Square's most popular bars and restaurants, , was evacuated due to a fire Friday afternoon.
The fire started suddenly in the exterior wall of the restaurant, near the front entrance, at about 4:35 p.m.
By 5 p.m., the Somerville Fire Department had the fire under control, according to Somerville Fire Chief Kevin Kelleher, who was at the scene. At that time, firefighters were still in the building searching for other hot spots.

No one was injured in the event, Kelleher said.
The fire caused Elm Street to be shut down right at the beginning of Friday evening rush hour. Police were diverting cars around the Square.

Kelleher said a fire inspector was going to investigate, but the cause was not suspicious.
According to The Burren's manager, Desmond Rushe, the fire happened suddenly. "We saw smoke coming through a light fixture," he said.
"I have no idea what happened yet," he added.
Rushe said he did not know if The Burren would be open for business Friday night.
