First GLX Bridge Closure Announced, More Planned

Seven bridge closures are proposed from 2018-2020.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The Green Line Extension team has announced the first of seven proposed bridge closures between 2018 and 2020, according to the city of Somerville. Current projections call for the full closure of the Broadway Bridge at Ball Square, which connects Ball and Magoun Squares, for one full year beginning in the fall of 2018.

The closure will apply to all modes of transportation, including bicycles and pedestrians. More bridge closures are planned through 2019 and 2020, including on Washington Street (between Union Square and Inner Belt), Medford Street (outside of Union Square), Cedar Street, School Street, Lowell Street and College Ave.

In anticipation of the proposed closure schedule and detour plans associated with Green Line construction, the city will hold an information session on Saturday, June 23 from 9-11 a.m. The proposal for closures of seven bridges will be discussed.
