SOMERVILLE, MA — A piece of heavy machinery tied to Green Line Extension work blocked the Commuter Rail tracks, canceling a Lowell Line train Thursday. The MBTA said a drill rig leaning too close to the tracks near West Medford led to the cancellation of the 3:40 p.m. train from North Station.

There is a shuttle bus connection at Wellington Station for a train connection at Anderson/Woburn, according to the MBTA. A crane is being brought in to stabilize the drill rig.
