Grand Opening of Somerville Tool Library On Saturday
It's like a library...except with tools instead of books, y'know?

When something breaks nowadays, you don’t have to wield Bob Vila-levels of handyman wisdom to figure out how to put it back together. Mostly, you just need access to YouTube, and the plethora of step-by-step home, vehicle, and appliance repair tips uploaded by a legion of self-proclaimed experts.
But if you don’t already own or can’t afford the tools necessary to complete whatever the task may be, then all that knowledge is useless.
Fortuitously for Somerville residents with repairs to make, but without infinite resources to do so, the Somerville Tool Library opens its doors at the Parts and Crafts center at 577 Somerville Ave. on Saturday, Feb. 7. For an annual fee of $50, STL members can borrow as many as seven tools every week, although individuals must be more than 18 years old to qualify for membership.

The new institution declares its existence on Saturday with an event dubbed “Anachronistic Audio Repair Project.” The noon-2 p.m. workshop shall be devoted to repairing, deconstruction, and “upcycling” of boom boxes, cassette players, and other antiquated music delivery devices.
