Green Line Extension Bridge Closures: Timeline, Detours

Three bridge closures are scheduled to start this year, with the first expected in March. Here's everything you need to know.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A series of bridges along the new Green Line route will close for construction in 2019 and 2020. Three closures are planned for 2019: on Broadway between Ball Square and Magoun Square, on Washington Street east of McGrath Highway and on Medford Street behind Somerville High School.

Broadway Bridge

Closure Timeline: March 2019 - March 2020

Location: Broadway between Ball Square and Magoun Square

Traffic Impacts: All cars, cyclists, pedestrians, and MBTA bus routes 80 and 89 will be detoured.

  • Eastbound
    • From Powder House Rotary, continue onto Warner St.
    • Turn right onto Main St.
    • Turn left onto Broadway
  • Westbound
    • From Broadway, turn left onto Cedar St.

  • Eastbound
    • From Broadway, turn left onto Boston Ave.
