Green Line Extension Construction To Ramp Up Soon

The $2.3 billion project remains on schedule, and the impact of work will soon be apparent, according to the GLX project manager.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Construction on the Green Line Extension project is expected to ramp up in the coming months, Project Manager John Dalton told MBTA officials Monday. There are currently 320 people working on the $2.3 billion project – 95 from the MBTA and 225 from the design-build team – and more workers will be added over the next six to 12 months, the State House News Service reported.

The extension is about 60 percent designed and continuing on schedule, according to Dalton. The impacts of construction will soon be apparent, as demolition of buildings is expected to start this month.

The Broadway bridge will close for a year starting in late March, and the Washington Street bridge will be closed from April to December, according to the SHNS.
