Green Line Extension Names Lead Designer
The project's lead designer will work alongside the design-build team, MBTA and GLX communities.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A nationally recognized transportation design firm has been named the lead designer for the Green Line Extension project. STV will work as part of the GLX Constructors design-build team, led by the Fluor Corporation, Middlesex Corporation, Herzog Contracting Corp. and Balfour Beatty, the company announced in a press release.
The $1.3 billion project is expected to be completed by 2021. It will include six new stations, a new vehicle maintenance facility, an administration building, a viaduct, six bridges, one relocated station and a community path.
Daily ridership at the new stations is expected to hit 45,000 commuters by 2030.

"The three communities where the Green Line Extension project is being constructed have been engaged in this process for nearly 20 years," Mark Pelletier, STV vice president and Boston office manager, said in a statement. "They are knowledgeable, passionate and excited to have public transportation being made available to them. We look forward to working with them, the MBTA, and the Fluor Middlesex/Herzog/Balfour Beatty team in making this project a reality."
STV has a background in MBTA projects, working on the North Station Transportation Improvement Project and serving as lead designer of the Greenbush Commuter Rail Restoration project.
