Highlanders Volleyball Sends Arlington to State
The Highlanders put up a good fight, but apparently not good enough...
The Somerville High School boys' volleyball team has certainly experienced their fair share of growing pains as they struggle through just their second full season in existence. Such was very much the case as they played host to state tournament bound Arlington High School yesterday afternoon, and despite their best efforts, dropped a 3-0 decision to the visiting Spy Ponders.
"I really thought we played pretty well through the first two games today," said Somerville's Coach Walker. "I thought we put a good offense together, we served alright, and we played some pretty good defense, but then things really got away from us in the third game there. That's been our main problem, too, for most of the year, being consistent. There were games where we looked great and things were clicking, and then games where we had no energy and looked lost."
The Highlanders battled hard through the first two games, keeping things close until Arlington was able to pull away in the end. They dropped game one by a score of 25-14, and then game two by a similar decision of 25-15. Things slipped away in game three, which was the match-clinching fame for AHS, as they were unable to put up much of a fight on their way to a 25-3 loss.

"There is definitely some potential here though, and if we can work on being more consistent in our game and doing the right things all the time, we'll definitely get better," Walker said. "Hopefully we can keep progressing the program, though, and get a JV team in place to help develop more kids for the varsity level."
