How to Get Involved With Somerville's Snow Shoveling Program

Whether you are a teen looking for some extra dough, or a local senior seeking assistance, the city's got you covered this winter.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The Somerville Teen Shoveling Program is back this season, and it benefits both local teens and seniors alike.

The paid program offers youths the opportunity to shovel out seniors after a snowstorm in Somerville. Participants are paid for each home they shovel.

Those interested must sign up with the Office of Commissions and be available whenever there's a snowstorm. There are about 55 homes owned by seniors on the list, according to the city website. Teens can sign up for email, text or phone calls to check availability and receive house assignments.

The going rates for service are $20 for sidewalk and steps, $20 for a driveway (one spot), $50 for corner lots and $25 for a parking spot on the street.

Homeowners may request one or more services, and in the event of extremely heavy snowfalls, prices may change or completion of all of the jobs may not be possible. This should be discussed with the program coordinator.

Snow removal from the actual vehicle in the driveway is the owner's responsibility.
