ICYMI: Mike's Pastry Opened, and Patch Went Undercover

The line, the balloons, the cannolis - yea, it seemed Mike's had finally opened. But we still weren't convinced.

SOMERVILLE, MA – We heard a rumor Mike's Pastry in Assembly Row officially opened Thursday. So Patch's own Mike Carraggi – my boss, who conveniently assigned himself the most delicious story – took a trip down to confirm.

Indeed, the Grand Opening was taking place. Orange balloons and a line of people literally out the door at times seemed to confirm this, but Patch likes to dig a bit deeper, so we decided to go inside.

We got in line and chatted up a couple of folks, one who came from Arlington, the other from Somerville, who came down presumably just to confirm this on their own (it's an era of fake news after all...) These women knew their cannolis - whenever someone drops an Umberto reference you know they know their pastries.

We bought a couple of cannolis - a chocolate chip and an espresso - for research purposes, of course. A couple of lost cookies found their way into our box as well. We had to take some more pictures, but the people in line looked they were ready to snag any loose pastries and run. We had to mark our territory.

So it would seem Mike's Pastry is now open at Assembly Row. But we still aren't completely sure, so we'll probably have to check it out again today. Don't let anyone say we don't love our readers.
