Kiwanis Club of Somerville Bicycle Safety Day

One hundred young riders given bike helmets and taught safe riding

The Kiwanis Club of Somerville Bicycle Safety Day was held on Saturday, June 2nd at the East Somerville Community School. Approximately 100 young bike riders, and a few adults, participated. All were issued bicycle helmets, fitted by Kiwanis members assisted by Somerville Police Officer Maryanne Manfra. Bicycles were inspected by certified technicians from Ace Wheelworks in Somerville. Young riders were then put through a bicycle safety road test to learn and practice safe biking skills.

Special thanks to the Boston law offices of Breakstone, White & Gluck for donating bicycle helmets for Bicycle Safety Day. For the past six years, @Breakstone, White & Gluck, has donated bike helmets for the kids as part of its Project KidSafe campaign.

The event chairman was Kiwanis Past President Dave Blumsack. Thank you also to the Somerville Police Department - Officer Maryanne Manfra and Officer Steve St. Hilaire for their assistance.
