Largest Green Line Extension Contract Awarded
The MBTA named the winning bidder for the design-build contract Friday.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The MBTA on Friday named the winning bidder for its Green Line Extension design-build contract, the largest construction contract awarded in the agency's history. The agency awarded the contract to Green Line Constructors, comprised of firms Fluor Enterprises, the Middlesex Corporation, Herzog Contracting Corp. and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc.
The team said it can build the extension, which will bring seven new stations to Somerville and Medford, for $1.08 billion, according to the Boston Globe. That falls significantly under the $1.3 billion limit set by the MBTA.
Green Line Constructors also said it can revive aspects of the project that were previously cut, like a portion of a bike lane, elevators and a vehicle maintenance facility in Somerville, the Globe reported.

Three design-build teams were shortlisted for the contract earlier this year. The teams were required to submit final proposals by the end of September based on the MBTA Green Line Extension Project Team's Request for Proposal.
This included mandatory core elements – seven stations, train service, a vehicle maintenance facility and the community path – and six "additive options" such as public art, elevators and platform canopies.
