MA City Among Money Magazine's Best Places To Live

One Massachusetts community landed on the publication's list of best places to live in America.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Where is the best place to live in Massachusetts? Right outside of Boston, according to Money Magazine, which listed the capital city's northern neighbor among its top 100 places to live in America.

Somerville came in at No. 70 on the publication's list. Quantitatively, Somervillians are doing pretty well – the city has a median household income of over $92,000 coupled with 3 percent projected job growth. Money also touted Somerville's 33-minute commute and 201 clear days per year.

But clearly no one at Money has ever been to Porchfest or the Fluff Festival, as Somerville's unique character went unmentioned.

If you felt your community got snubbed, it could be because Money only looked at places with a population 50,000 or more. Places that made the list last year were ineligible for a repeat appearance (sorry Newton). From there, places that had double the national crime risk, less than 85 percent of its state's median household income or a lack of ethnic diversity were eliminated. Money pared the list down to 1,796 places.

Money then looked at the data, including "economic health, cost of living, ethnic and economic diversity, public education, income, health and safety, ease of living, and amenities, all provided by research partner Witlytic. We put the greatest weight on economic factors, housing, health and safety, diversity and cost of living," it said.

Money said it also interviewed people to find out more abstract things about places.
