Next At Somerville's Bow Market: Pop Culture Macarons

Maca macaronerie is the latest shop to confirm its opening at the upcoming Bow Market.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville soon won't want for macarons, and the ones at an upcoming Bow Market shop come with a twist. Maca, a macaronerie known for the cutesy depictions of pop culture favorites on its treats, is coming to Union Square's Bow Market, Scout Somerville reported.

Like Jaju Pierogi, which confirmed its opening at Bow last week, Maca is a pop-up that will open its first brick-and-mortar shop in Somerville. The macaronerie offers both classic and seasonal flavors (s'mores in the summer, pumpkin spice in the fall and eggnog in the winter), but its claim to fame is adorning the top with a recognizable character, ranging from Super Mario Brothers to Pokémon.

According to Scout, opening at Bow Market is a homecoming for Maca owner Tamy Chung, who debuted her treats at Somerville Flea last year. Chung will continue her baking operation out of Creative Chef Kitchens in New Hampshire at first, but told the magazine she hopes to eventually start making her macarons in-house at the Somerville location.

The new shop may also come with some new hires: Chung, who owns and operates Maca herself, is considering bringing up to two part-timers onboard.
