Albert A. McCarthy Jr., of Derry, New Hampshire, formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully at the Haverhill Hospice House on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014.
He was born in Boston, son of the late Albert A. and Dorothy (Roach) McCarthy. He leaves behind his loving wife Valerie (Simmons) McCarthy and three beautiful children, son Michael and twin daughters Shelley Carpenter and Kelly Conway along with their husbands Andy and Richard. He was predeceased by stepson Daniel McCarthy and brother Joseph Knight. He was a loving brother of Eugene McCarthy and wife Bonnie as well as numerous brothers and sisters- in- laws and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Matthew and Brandon McCarthy, Ryan, Kaycie and Lauren McCarthy, Daniel and Brian McCarthy, Timothy, Meghan and William Carpenter, Daniel and Samantha Conway.

Al was a lifetime member of the Somerville City Club, Medford Elks, Veteran of the Korean War, U.S. Army, and member of V.F.W. 1617, Derry, New Hampshire. Albert was a Truck Driver for Brigham’s Ice Cream for 38 years.
Funeral procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway, Powder House Square, Somerville, Saturday, Oct. 11, at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Raphael Church, Medford, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Calling hours Friday, Oct. 10, 4-8 p.m. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
