Obituary: Florence Papagno, Past Director of the Cross Street Elderly Housing Center

Papagno died Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Florence L. Papagno passed away peacefully at the Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday evening, Aug. 13. She was 86.

Florence was born and raised in East Boston, the daughter of the late Ralph and Catherine (Scarpa) Crisci. A Somerville resident for almost all of her life, Florence was an integral part of Somerville’s elder affairs effort. She was the past director of the Cross Street Elderly Housing Center and was up to the time of her passing working with Somerville’s Council on Aging. A devoted mother and grandmother, Florence was a good neighbor and friend to many.

The beloved wife of the late James Papagno, she was a devoted mother to Susan Saia and her husband Joseph of Waltham, Mary “Babes” Lorden and her husband Timothy of Peabody and Joseph Papagno of Wakefield. She was a loving grandmother to Nicole Lorden and Caitlin and Meaghan Papagno and a dear sister to Samuel Crisci of California.

A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday, 4-8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Florence’s name to the Somerville Council on Aging, 167 Holland St., Somerville, MA 02144.
