Obituary: Linda E. McGillicuddy, Retired Somerville Educator
Linda enjoyed a long career with the Somerville Public Schools, including a 20-year stint as a science teacher at Powder House.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Linda E. (Hawkins) McGillicuddy, of Somerville, passed away surrounded by her devoted daughters on Friday, January 6, 2017. Born in Boston, during the hurricane of 1938, along with her twin sister, Linnea, they were cherished daughters of the late Wilbur Lee Hawkins and Amy Viola (Anderson) Hawkins. Linda enjoyed a long career with the Somerville Public Schools, beginning in 1974 she taught at the Southern Junior High School, and then served over 20 years at the Powder House Community School teaching Science. She retired as a counselor educator from the Winter Hill Community School in 2013. Linda loved science and especially enjoyed geology, She was also an avid competitive tennis player and competed well into her 70’s. In her downtime, she loved spending time and summers on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire.
Linda was a devoted mother of Beth A. McGillicuddy of Boston and Susan L. McGillicuddy of Somerville. Beloved twin sister of Sr. Linnea M. Hawkins, Poor Clare Nuns of Jamaica Plain and sister of the late Richard and Gary Hawkins. Dear sister in law of Patricia Connolly and her husband Stephen of Melrose. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Thursday at 5:00PM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Visitation prior to the service will begin at 4:00PM. Interment will be private.
