Obituary: Victoriano A. Sumera Jr., of Somerville

SUMERA, Victoriano A., Jr. – 87, A longtime resident Of Somerville passed away on March 24, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband for 30 years of the late Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Donnelly) Sim.

Mr. Sumera was born and raised in The Philippines where he joined the USCG and migrated to the United States in the mid 1950’s. He served his country proudly for several years until his discharge as a disabled veteran. He then went on to a long career in the Hospitality Industry working in Hospitality Services for The Sheraton Boston until his retirement at age 64.

Loving father of Victor R. Sumera and his wife Minda of Quincy, Rennie J. Sumera and Laurel Bellavance of CT, Elizabeth Boothe and her husband Bobby of Billerica, Ellen Wilkin and her husband Wayne of Lowell, Frederick Sim, Daniel Sim and his wife Linda all of Somerville, Paula Cameli and her husband Mark, Nina Sim and her wife Jenn Nunes all of Burlington, Ann Gubnitsky and her husband William of Woburn, and the late Kathleen and Stephen Sim.

Dear brother of Theodoro of LA, Iluminada of The Philippines, Lorenzo Sumera of TX, and the late Maximina Angeles and Antonina Pimentel.

Cherished grandfather of Maximino and his wife Ruijie, Cassandra, Collin, Kristiana, David, Susan, Mandy, Melissa, Cassy, Nina, Ellie, Jimmy, Sean, Andrea, Maria, Sophia, Nicholas, Juliana, Sabrina, Sarah, William, and the late Christina.

Also survived by 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, Monday morning at 9:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Genoa Church, Somerville at 10:00 am.

Relatives and friends invited.

Calling hours Sunday 2-6 pm.

Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Mr. Sumera was a lifelong member and contributor to the Disabled American Veterans and truly believed in giving back. At his family’s request donations may be made in his memory to DAV.ORG.
