Part Of Green Line Extension Project Falls Behind Schedule

A section of the project slated for completion next month is expected to run until November.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A section of the Green Line Extension project is running behind schedule, according to Project Director John Dalton. Dalton told MBTA officials Monday that relocating existing Commuter Rail tracks — expected to be completed next month — will likely last until November.

The $2.3 billion project to extend the Green Line into Somerville and Medford is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021, a target Dalton is still confident the GLX team will hit. MBTA control board Chair Joseph Aiello expressed concern over the delay and urged officials to keep the project on schedule, Boston 25 reported.

Three bridges along the Green Line route in Somerville were shut down earlier this year to clear a path for construction. There will be 4.7 miles of new track across the two communities when the project is finished.
