Police: Road Rage Leads to Stabbing, Attempted Murder Charge

The incident occurred Tuesday evening on Marshall Street.

A Somerville man became infuriated at another man trying to back a truck into a Marshall Street driveway Tuesday evening, Jan. 6, to the point where he got out of his car and stabbed him, according to police.

David Smith, 52, of 14 Sycamore St., first honked at the truck driver, who was having trouble backing up on the narrow street off Broadway at about 5:30 p.m., and then swore at him, police said. After he swore at the truck driver again, the truck driver got out his vehicle and asked for Smith’s patience. Smith then got out of his vehicle and stabbed the truck driver in his arm, police said.

“This guy was trying to kill me,” the truck driver told police before he was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. “He had a crazy look, and he kept stabbing and slashing at me … thank God that guy (a witness) got the knife away from him.”
