Procession For Fallen Somerville Police Officer

A procession returning Louis Remigio, 55, of Tewksbury, from Portsmouth, NH, to Somerville began at 1 p.m.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A procession for fallen Somerville police officer Louis Remigio traveled down I-95 from New Hampshire onto I-93 Tuesday afternoon, ending at a funeral home in Somerville. Remigio, 55, of Tewksbury, died Monday from injuries he sustained in a crash in North Hampton, NH, Sunday morning. He was a beloved member of the Somerville Police Department for 30 years.

During his tenure, Remigio received multiple awards for his service, including two Life Saving Awards, a Meritorious Service Award, a Beyond the Call of Duty Award and numerous commendations by both his colleagues and members of the community. He was a single father of two girls following his wife's passing last year.

An 18-year-old Burlington man, Michael Ricci, has been charged in the crash after witnesses told police he was allegedly racing other cars when his 2013 Mercedes-Benz C300 abruptly crossed over from the northbound to the southbound side and collided with Remigio's 2003 Harley-Davidson.

Ricci was not injured in the crash.
