3 Officers Injured In Worcester Police Chase

A 23-year-old man allegedly nearly ran over officers and pedestrians before crashing and attempting to flee on foot.

WORCESTER, MA – A 23-year-old Worcester man has been charged in a police pursuit and hit and run that injured three officers. Christian Millett, of Jackson Street, allegedly drove the wrong way down a one-way street, crashed into several cars and turned around and accelerated, causing officers and bystanders to jump out of the way.

Police responded to the area of Water Street and Harrison Street around 2 a.m. Sunday morning for a report of a large fight. Officers were breaking up the crowd when Millett allegedly drove his Toyota Camry the wrong way down Water Street and struck three parked cars.

Millett then allegedly turned his car around and sped down Water Street toward the intersection of Water and Harrison. Several officers were in the road with their arms out, ordering him to stop, police said. He allegedly accelerated, and several officers and pedestrians were forced to dive out of the way to avoid being hit, according to police.

Officers pursued Millett, who police said continued to drive "recklessly" as he led police to the east side of the city. In what police believe to be intentional acts, he allegedly collided with two cruisers during the chase. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a retaining wall on the St. Vincent's Hospital property on Major Taylor Boulevard.

Police said Millett attempted to flee, and struggled with an officer before the pair fell over an 8-foot wall. He was arrested and given medical attention.

Millett is charged with eight counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (car), two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car), resisting arrest, operating to endanger, failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of an accident and multiple civil motor vehicle violations.

He will be arraigned Monday in Worcester District Court.
