Somerville Cafe To Move Amid Dispute With Property Owner

The Biscuit owners did not mince words on their fundraising page, saying their "unreasonable" landlord wanted the space "empty and fallow."

SOMERVILLE, MA — After 15 years at 406 Washington Street, The Biscuit bakery and cafe has been forced to move amid a dispute with its property owner. According to a fundraising page for the spot, an "unreasonable" landlord "wants [the space] empty and fallow, like the majority of their other properties in the neighborhood."

The cafe is set to close Dec. 31. The owners have reportedly found a new location within walking distance from its current spot that is "unique" and "subterranean."

The fundraising campaign, which has a goal of $150,000, will go toward renovations at the new location. The Biscuit serves biscuits (of course), sandwiches, pizza, salads, soups, muffins and other bakery staples.
