Somerville Fire: 12 Displaced By 2-Alarm Blaze
Crews battled a third-floor fire on Sydney Street Tuesday night.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A dozen people are displaced following a two-alarm fire at a third-floor residence in Somerville Tuesday night. Fire officials said the blaze originated on the third floor of 31-33 Sydney St., a three-unit building, around 10:30 p.m. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling the blaze, which was quickly brought under control.
The fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damages, according to Somerville Deputy Fire Chief Charles Breen. Much of it was confined to the third floor, though the floors below sustained water damage.
Eight adults and four children were displaced by the fire. The cause remains under investigation but appears to be accidental, Breen said in an email.
