Somerville Firefighters Raise Concerns About Speed Bumps: Report
Union leaders claim that the bumps are hindering the department in multiple different ways.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Firefighters are raising concerns about the impact speed bumps are having on the department’s vehicles, according to a report from 7 News Boston.
Somerville Firefighters Local 76 President Mike Jefferson addressed the City Council recently, claiming that the bumps are not only damaging expensive equipment but also slowing down emergency response times.
According to Jefferson, the speed bumps are causing damage to the engines’ suspension, brakes, and alignment specifically. The City Council lamented the challenge of balancing pedestrian safety with public safety when it comes to roadways.

Jefferson said that an engine had to be towed for “major” repairs on Tuesday, May 5.
