Somerville Fundraiser Will Benefit Lung Transplant Recipient
A local restaurant will host a fundraiser this month for a 32-year-old area resident who underwent a double lung transplant in June.
SOMERVILLE, MA – A local restaurant will host a fundraiser this month for a Somerville-area woman who underwent a double lung transplant this past Father's Day. Amy Scafidi, 32, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis 20 years ago and has since earned her master's degree, travelled the world, started a small business and worked with children and young adults with severe mental illness.
The fundraiser at Flatbread Company will assist Amy with transplant-related expenses. The event, which will run from 5-10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, will donate a portion of the proceeds from all pizza purchased to Amy's bills.
Local volunteers have raised an estimated $60,000 for the Children's Organ Transplant Organization, an Indiana-based charity that is assisting Amy's family.
