Somerville to Host Food and Fire Festival This Saturday

Ignite! A Global Food and Fire Festival is free and open to the public from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on August 15.

Somerville’s Union Square will play host to dozens of local food trucks, fire throwers and dancers, street performers, and much more on Saturday night. The evening of entertainment is known as “Ignite! A Global Food and Fire Festival.”

The Somerville Arts Council describes the event as a “raucous celebration of global culture.” Fire throwers from the Boston Circus Guild will be on hand to memorize the crowd and international eats for all tastes will be available.

Some of the local vendors that will be at the festival include Cantina La Mexicana, India Palace, Gracie’s Ice Cream and Casa B. The Arts Council will offer “Ignite Your Mouth” and the “Nose Olympics!” food activities. Those at the festival could also try some Brazilian BBQ or freshly squeezed sugar cane juice!

Food aside, there will be Belly Dancers, Butoh cheerleaders and an array of musicians. The fire throwers will host the night’s main event. A DJ will be present, offering fun for all ages. An eight-foot tiger’s head, created by a local artist, will also be on display!
