Somerville Man Crashes Stolen Car While Fleeing Police

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A Somerville man is facing charges after crashing a stolen car in Cambridge overnight while attempting to drive away from authorities, Cambridge Police said in a series of tweets Friday.

Police said they spotted the man, 35, driving the wrong way on Cambridge's Technology Square when he noticed them and turned his lights off, conducted a u-turn, and sped away in a stolen car.

Just a block away, on Bishop Allen Drive, the man crashed the car while attempting a turn before running out of the car, police said.

He was then arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and a Motor Vehicle Lights Violation, police said.

Officers said they also recovered drugs, prescription pills, scales, tools, and multiple phones.
