Somerville OPENAIR Circus Arrives

SOMERVILLE, MA – The 32nd Somerville OPENAIR Circus arrives Friday night and hosts shows throughout the weekend. Over 120 children of all ages – and a few adults – will perform what they have learned over the summer.

The OPENAIR Circus is set up on Nunziato Field at the corner of Vinal Avenue and Summer Street. There will be four performances this weekend:

• Friday, August 4 at 7 p.m.
• Saturday, August 5 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
• Sunday, August 6 at 2 p.m.

The shows are free, but a $2 donation is suggested. Performances are about two hours long with one intermission. Refreshments, souvenirs and circus equipment will be available before the show and during the 15-minute break.

Attendees are asked to come by a green mode of transportation, either by bike, bus or walking. Here's how to get there in an environmentally friendly fashion, via the OPENAIR Circus website:

Green Directions: Walking/Bike

• Central St - Take Prospect St past the Inman Sq area (continuing past Hampshire and Cambridge St). Turn left onto Webster Ave (against traffic). When you get to Union Sq, continue as straight as possible and take Bow St out of Union Sq. A the fork in the road where Bow St turns west, continue onto Summer St (most direct path forward). Nunziato Field (where we are) will be on your right almost immediately.
• Davis Sq - Take Highland Ave heading away from Davis Sq. Eventually, after you've passed the YMCA and Somerville High School, you'll come to Vinal Ave, which you'll turn right onto. At the end of Vinal Ave is the entrance to Nunziato Field (where we are).
• Foss Park - Facing Broadway from Foss Park, turn to the right and walk west on Broadway. Almost immediately turn left onto Walnut St. Continue up Walnut St. until you reach the top of the hill. Turn right onto Highland Ave. Walk one block and turn left onto Vinal Ave. At the end of Vinal Ave is the entrance to Nunziato Field (where we are).
• Harvard Sq - Make your way to Kirkland St (from the T station, you can follow Mass Ave, following the sidewalk to the right and crossing over Cambridge St, walking by the Harvard University Science Center). Take Kirkland St and continue as it turns into Washington St as you cross into Somerville. When you arrive in Union Sq, turn left and take Bow St out of Union Sq. A the fork in the road where Bow St turns west, continue onto Summer St (most direct path forward). Nunziato Field (where we are) will be on your right almost immediately.
• Inman Sq - Take Cambridge St heading East. Turn left on Prospect St. Turn left onto Webster Ave (against traffic). When you get to Union Sq, continue as straight as possible and take Bow St out of Union Sq. A the fork in the road where Bow St turns west, continue onto Summer St (most direct path forward). Nunziato Field (where we are) will be on your right almost immediately.
• Porter Sq - Take Somerville Ave heading away from Porter Sq. After passing Market Basket on the right, you'll bear left onto Bow St (against traffic) and then turn left onto Summer St. Nunziato Field (where we are) will be on your right almost immediately.
• Somerville High School/City Hall - Facing the High School while on Highland Ave, turn right and head east on Highland Ave. Turn right on Vinal Ave. At the end of Vinal Ave is the entrance to Nunziato Field (where we are).
• Union Sq. - Take Bow St out of Union Sq. A the fork in the road where Bow St turns west, continue onto Summer St (most direct path forward). Nunziato Field (where we are) will be on your right almost immediately.

Bus Routes:

• 85 Kendall-MIT Union Sq - This route runs right by the field, closest stops are Summer St & Vinal and Summer St & Wesley Park.
• 86 Sullivan Sq-Reservoir (Cleveland Circle) - This route runs through Union Sq. Closest stops are Washington St & Kingman Rd and Washington St & Webster St. From either stop, head into Union Sq and take the Union Sq directions from above.
• 87 Arlington Center or Clarendon Hill- This route comes close to Union. Closest stops are Somerville Ave & Church St and Somerville Ave & Carlton St. From these stops take Bow St (against traffic) and then turn left onto Summer St. Nunziato Field (where we are) will be on your right almost immediately.
• 88 Clarendon Hill-Lechmere Station - This route runs down Highland Ave. Closest stops are Highland Ave & Vinal Ave and Highland Ave Opposite Putnam St. From Highland Opposite Putnam, head back down Highland to Vinal Ave (heading east). Once at Vinal Ave, take Vinal down to its end and the entrance to Nunziato Field (where we are) is on the right.
• 90 Davis Sq-Wellington Station - This route runs down Highland Ave. Closest stops are Highland Ave & Vinal Ave and Highland Ave Opposite Putnam St. From Highland Opposite Putnam, head back down Highland to Vinal Ave (heading east). Once at Vinal Ave, take Vinal down to its end and the entrance to Nunziato Field (where we are) is on the right.
• 91 Sullivan Sq-Central Sq -This route runs through Union Sq. Closest stops are Somerville Ave & Stone Ave and 30 Prospect St. From either stop, head toward the center of Union Sq and then turn right onto Bow St and follow the above directions from Union Sq.
• CT2 - Sullivan-Ruggles - This route runs through Union Sq. Closest stops are Somerville Ave & Stone Ave and 30 Prospect St. From either stop, head toward the center of Union Sq and then turn right onto Bow St and follow the above directions from Union Sq.
