Somerville OUI Suspect Caught Urinating By Car: PD

The man told police he didn't realize he was speeding, but he had to go to the bathroom.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A man charged with drunken driving in Somerville was caught urinating next to his car, police said. An officer found 27-year-old Michael Altieri, of Watertown, standing outside his car with the driver's side door open, engine running and headlights on, according to the police report.

On Jan. 24, Altieri sped past an officer on Medford Street going 50 mph, the police report stated. He was found in a lot down the road with his car parked at an angle, disregarding the parking lines, police said.

Altieri told the officer he was urinating and said he didn't realize he was going fast, but he had to go to the bathroom, according to police. When he reached into his pocket to get his license, he dropped money on the ground several times and stumbled while trying to pick it up, police said.

Altieri's breath smelled like alcohol and he had glassy, bloodshot eyes and dilated pupils, according to the police report. He first told the officer he had a "couple beers" and later said he had "four drinks," the report stated. Police said Altieri slurred his words as he spoke.

Altieri underwent sobriety tests at the scene and was taken into custody based on the results, police said. He refused to take a blood test at the station, according to police.
