Somerville Police To Conduct Alcohol Compliance Checks
The checks will see if restaurants, bars, and liquor stores are carding customers when they buy alcohol.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville Police Department will conduct alcohol compliance checks at all local liquor outlets starting next month. The checks will run from October 2019 to October 2020, city officials said.
Young people employed by Somerville Prevention Services will perform the checks with an accompanying officer. Somerville Prevention and Police Department teams will focus on package stores, bars, and restaurants that have “all-forms” liquor licenses.
"Limiting youth access to alcohol begins at the point of sale," Matthew Mitchell, Prevention Services Manager, said in a statement. "We will continue to look into how we can best ensure compliance is maintained and sustained each year. In conjunction with the community, we hope to continue our successful campaigns against youth drug and alcohol use as mindfully as possible; ensuring youth don’t have easy access to alcohol."
